The second week

Hello everyone!
This is the second week of my work placement. Are you excited to read about what I went through on the second week of my work placement? If yes , then read everything below, you will find it out.

But firstly, I want to tell you more about the event I am working on. I mentioned it last week. The Benelux Venture Forum. This is the event for only Benelux region companies. Do you know what the Benelux region is? If you want me to tell you the truth, I didn’t know what the Benelux region is, but when I started this work placement I found out that these are 3 countries. Benelux countries are the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg. Should we consider this as an interesting fact I’ve promised to tell you every week? I don’t think so.

So actually, now I know that the country I am doing my internship in is from the Benelux region. But looking forward to Benelux Venture forum event... What it actually is? Benelux Venture forum (BVF) is the event where startups present their projects to the investors. The BVF will showcase 40 to 50 companies active in:
  • Material & Manufacturing
  • Healthcare
  • Food & Nutrition
  • Smart Services

70 international and regional investors will take part to the BVF and select the top quartile companies that will be granted access to the exclusive presentation session of the European Venture Contest Final on December in Dusseldorf.
This is the event I am working on right now. My main task is to find more companies for the event due to the luck of the presenting companies. I am trying to find more companies in Benelux region,  while doing it I am discovering some things. Do you have any suggestions where I can find startups? I run out of ideas :D

About the things I have discovered.
The first thing is that it is kind of difficult to find startups, even though I know that there are so many startups. Secondly, I discovered that Luxembourg is also French speaking country. And when you call to Luxembourg, people there talk nicely. This can be not really interesting for you, but still I wanted to share my thoughts.

To find startups I need to call to startup incubators (A business incubator is a company that helps new and startup companies to develop by providing services such as management training or office space) and clusters(a region with a high density of research-oriented organizations). And now this is all about calling.… Have you ever used this kind of phone in your life?

This is the first time I am using it. New experience, never used a phone that is used in the office. Do you think it is some kind of "old school" thing? For me it actually is. But I need to get used to it and I probably will.

Funny story time... One day was looking for companies and I started to call them. I was calling a lot and the funniest thing that happened to me that day was, that I tried to use the calculator app in my phone to call the company. I think I will probably need to take some rest.

Do you think I succeed? Mhmm.. No.. But it was funny at least. I think that is what happens when you don't get enough sleep and work from 9 o'clock in the morning. But now back to the roots.

I promised you to show the office I am working in. That's what I am going to do now. The office is located on 7th floor, I can use the elevator to come here. Once I used the stairs... it was my biggest mistake, I will never do this again, I didn't think that it will be so difficult. This is the beginning of the other story, let's move on. Office in Brussels itself is not very big, I work here with 7 more people the other people are in the other offices, but it is actually very nice. We have the meeting room here, 6 rooms, kitchen and one big hall. I like this office, it has a lot of windows and as you could see it has really nice view from those windows. Here we go:

To sum up the second week:
- I improved my geography skills in what I am really bad at.
- I got new experience with the new phone.
- And finally I got some funny stories.

As promised:
Every week fact will be…
Did you know that all adult citizens of this country are obliged to go to the polls and vote.
Would you vote?

The forth week in Brussels..

Guess who's back? Back again... Sooooo let's start with the week number four. Today I will talk about my work placement more than about the Brussels or its weather. This week started with a "Work from home" job. Due to my English retake exam I wasn't able to work in the office, so I asked my supervisor to do everything I could do at home. And she agreed. While working at home I found out that this is not the type of work I like. I feel so lazy at home, I don't have any motivation to work. I think it is due to a lot of other things I actually can do at home, and these things are more interesting than work. Work from home..This made me think of "HOME". Person usually has only one place, where it feels like home. But I have two of these places. One is my flat back to Latvia, and the other one is just a small room in Deventer. I felt so warm and cozy when I came from Brussels to Deventer. I felt like home, I wanted to stay there and did...

The third week...

Hello everyone... It's me again... Today I want to discuss 3 topics: - Flora & Fauna of this beautiful city - The weather, that was killing me all this week - And finally how tough this week was Let's start with Flora and Fauna. The office where I am doing my internship in is located near my house, but in between my house and the office there is a big lake. Whenever I have my lunch break I am going there and chilling. The "Flora" of this city is actually very beautiful, I really like it. Notwithstanding Brussels is a big city, and it is not as green as, for example, countryside, but you can find many beautiful thing while walking around Brussels. Here are some views I can share with you: The "Fauna" is also very interesting. As I mentioned that there is the lake near the office, and there are many birds. Of course those are ducks, gooses and swans. But there is one kind of birds that I have never seen before. This bird actually l...
